‘Write Well’ is an application we chose for our first assignment on Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). The application has proven to be an effective tool to enhance writing skill among students. It provides step-by-step guide to help students go through the process of writing an essay be it a normal narrative essay or a sophisticated academic article.
‘Write Well’ can be related to two
of the principles of CALL; Behaviorist and Communicative. Relating the
application to Behaviorist CALL (computer as a tutor), the application corrects
your grammatical errors and explains to you why it is wrong. The Communicative
CALL part of the application is that it merely guides and gives you suggestion
on how to continue writing a particular essay. The perspective given by the
software makes it another pupil in the process of language learning.
The software can also be related to the latest principle of CALL; Constructivism. Constructivism in simple term can be defined as the perspective of CALL which promotes the construction of new knowledge for the learners based on their experience. The nature of the software which demands the learner to think and write on their own is actually in line with this perspective. Hence, it makes it a very effective tool in helping teachers enhancing their lesson.

Therefore, in the process of making
a lesson plan, we think it is crucial for the teachers to select good software
that would pique their students’ interest and attention. Only then should they
write their lesson plan so it would be easier for them to inculcate the
software into the lesson plan.
